Years Later

I stood there
Foolish and dumbfounded
I made a mistake
And believed in a dream
It would be the subject of many poems
Such as this worthless waste of time
From this foolish friend of mine

I am the friend of many
I am the lover of none
I am assured that I am a good man
And yet
I have reason to write this poem
I am told to be be confidant
I am told I am a good man
And yet
I have reason to write this poem

I am told to look at the light
I am told it is blinding
But yet
I have reason to pray for light
I have reason to write

Standing there
Seeing what I see
Feeling what I feel
It'll never leave
So go and save
All your speaches
All your slogans
All your cliches

I need a miracle
I need a touch of a delicate hand
I need love
Of both kinds

I lay here
Foolish and dumbfounded
Making mistakes
Believing in dreams
Writing many poems
Such as this one
Shedding many tears
From this fool
And it will never go away
'Til the long awaited day

If any of you who read this
Love the writer of this worthless
Sappy little poem
From a pathetic little man
Who's so wrapped up in pitty
Then please
Oh please
Tell me

Just as I thought
